Every month I set myself the challeng of trying 5 new things. They can be big things like visiting a country for the first time, or small things like trying a new app or a new type of food. Even so, to find 5 every month can be a bit of a challenge sometimes, and there have been a few occasions this year when I’ve struggled.
Nevertheless, it’s a lot of fun, and I always enjoy looking back on the month that has just ended to see what I’ve been up to. If there’s anyone reading who’s looking for inspiration for New Year’s Resolutions, I can’t recommend this one enough.
Anyway, this is the last of my year in review posts for 2017 (I promise!) Here’s the list:
9. Gardening
8. Oktoberfest!
4. Graduating (with my PhD, which meant I got better robes than last time)
2. My new job as a trainee patent attorney
1. Attending weddings (and receptions)
There you go. One more year of amazing experiences. It’s easy to say that 2017 has been awful, and it absolutely has in many respects, but on a personal level I have been very fortunate – I’ve achieved one or two things, I’ve been to some amazing places, and I’ve spent most of it with the most wonderful people I could possible hope to know. So, as rubbish as a lot of 2017 was, I can’t help but be grateful for all the good bits.
Here’s hoping that 2018 is half as good as 2017 was for me, and twice as good as 2017 was for the world.
