New things I tried in May

As usual, this month I’ve been going out of my way to try new things. It’s a habit I strongly recommend and I always enjoy looking back at the end of the month to see what I’ve been able to try.

This month I’ve tried:

1. Visiting Croatia!

Honestly, it’s a miracle I ever came back.

We spent a week on Lopud Island just off the coast of Dubrovnik and had an absolutely amazing time. I’ve already posted about arriving and about the food we tried there and you can probably expect another couple of posts before I get bored of telling you about how wonderful it was. Sorrynotsorry.

2. Watching a football match

Yeah, I’d seriously never watched a football match before. I don’t think I’ve ever even sat through a whole one on TV. Like, I’ve been in the room while others have been watching them, but I’ve also literally read my book in a pub when P had dragged me out because he wanted to watch football. However, our local team is Stenhousemuir and I decided it would be fun to go support them when they played Brechin earlier this month. It was great. I ate a hotdog.

3. Canton Colli Eugani

I have walked past this wine shop maybe 100 times since moving to Falkirk but never quite got around to actually going in until this month. I’ve since been twice. They sell wine on draft in either plastic or glass bottles that hold either 1, 3 or 5 litres. They also sell more ordinary bottles of wine and will deliver them. It’s all Italian wine and so far everything I’ve tasted has been rather morish.

4. Grammarly

On the recommendation of a friend, I signed up for Grammarly and installed their browser add-ons. The service is basically an enhanced spell-checker and I’m actually finding it really useful. I’m not sure I’d buy the premium version because it’s pretty darned expensive, but I strongly recommend the basic version to anyone who wants to improve their writing.

5. Job interviews!

Ok, I’ve had an interview before, but never for this field. Luckily for me, the interviews translated into job offers and I’ve now accepted a new role as a trainee patent attorney at a firm in Edinburgh! I’ll be starting in July and I am disgustingly excited about this.

As usual, it’s been a busy month! Also a fun month, but no wonder I’m feeling a bit knackered. Already I’m looking forward to seeing what March will bring.

What have you been up to this month? Have you been trying anything new? Anything I just have to try as soon as possible? Let me know in the comments. Oh, and I know that Lucy over at Orts and Gribbles now also posts a round up of new things she’s been trying, so go check that out if you enjoyed this post. If you’re also doing a similar blog post then let me know and I’ll be sure to share that too!
